Mini LED enthusiasts rejoice—has the spring of the display industry arrived?

Date:2023-06-07

In recent years, competition in television display technology has become increasingly fierce. Judging from the 2022 market performance of China's color TV technology products, the industry呈现出 a "polarized" situation: the MiniLED TV market grew against the overall trend, surging 385.3% year-on-year, while the markets for OLED TVs and laser TVs both declined to varying degrees compared to the previous year. This data is somewhat surprising—OLED, which was once booming just a few years ago, has now lost its luster, while domestically developed MiniLED TVs, leveraging their first-mover advantage, have quietly taken the leading position.QQ截图20230802165103.png

The key reason why MiniLED TVs are now more popular among consumers is their significant advantages in picture quality compared to OLED and LCD TVs. MiniLED TVs use a much larger number of LED backlight beads, enabling precise local dimming, reducing halo effects, and enhancing the detail in both bright and dark areas of the image. Additionally, MiniLED TVs offer higher peak brightness and more refined color reproduction, delivering visuals that are more natural and lifelike.

Moreover, the production cost of MiniLED TVs is relatively lower. Compared to OLED TVs, MiniLED manufacturing costs are more controllable, allowing for more competitive pricing. Additionally, MiniLED TVs do not suffer from screen burn-in issues and have a longer lifespan, which is an important consideration for consumers.

Considering the advantages of MiniLED TVs, it is foreseeable that MiniLED display technology will lead the industry for a long time to come. As one of the first brands to invest in MiniLED technology, TCL possesses deep technical expertise and has earned strong consumer recognition. In 2022, TCL captured over 53% of the Chinese MiniLED color TV market, maintaining its position as the top-selling MiniLED TV brand—meaning that for every two MiniLED TVs sold, one was made by TCL. The recently launched TCL C11G Pro represents an effort by TCL to make this cutting-edge display technology more accessible, and it has drawn significant attention from the industry since its release.

The TCL C11G Pro features a significantly increased number of MiniLED backlight beads, achieving up to 880 backlighting zones and a peak brightness of 1500 nits, along with an ultra-high dynamic contrast ratio of 15,000,000:1. The greater the number of backlight zones, the finer the light control, resulting in reduced halo effects and richer details in both bright and dark areas of the image. TVs with low peak brightness, such as those limited to 500 nits, tend to compress brightness when decoding high-quality content, causing loss of detail in shadow areas and making the overall picture appear flat and gray. In contrast, higher peak brightness delivers more realistic visuals—for example, sunlight appears vividly intense and "dazzling," while details on the shaded side of objects are preserved. This results in a highly detailed image that offers an immersive, lifelike viewing experience.

Outstanding picture quality that far surpasses its peers is also driven by core underlying technologies. The C11G Pro is equipped with TCL’s proprietary "Hexa-Crystal Pro" technology, featuring an industry-breaking 6-core LED chip that increases the number of light-emitting points from 2 to 6, significantly boosting both brightness and energy efficiency. Additionally, TCL’s self-developed, industry-first Wide-Angle Uniform Light Lens technology expands the light emission angle from 130 degrees to 160 degrees, enabling more precise control over light distribution. This greatly enhances the uniformity and stability of the backlight, effectively solving the long-standing industry challenge of halo effects.

As the "perfect partner" for MiniLED, the C11G Pro continues to use the A++ Butterfly Stellar Display. Its liquid crystal layer employs nanoscale biomimetic technology to precisely control the passage of light, boosting contrast to five times that of a standard IPS panel, while achieving an ultra-low reflectivity of just 2.3%.

In previous years, OLED TVs indeed earned high praise from many consumers for their superior picture quality, and some media outlets even regarded it as the future of display technology. However, judging from last year's market share and actual consumer feedback, the display industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation. MiniLED TVs, with advantages such as high peak brightness, numerous backlight zones, more refined color performance, and longer lifespan, are now gaining greater favor among both the market and consumers. In 2023, major manufacturers clearly increased their investment in MiniLED TVs. As an early pioneer and industry leader in MiniLED technology, TCL has consistently driven the development of the MiniLED sector while also expanding into the mid-range market to make cutting-edge technology accessible to more users. The C11G Pro was born precisely within this wave of advancement.
